The Lake Lanier striper bite continues to be outstanding, and today’s trip was one for the books.
We started the morning targeting a deep hump where the fish were already set up and feeding. It didn’t take long before the rods started bending, and we caught close to 20 striped bass in the first hour and a half. The action was fast-paced, with multiple doubles, triples, and quality fish coming over the side.
Once that bite slowed down, we made a move to the river channel in search of another school. That decision paid off in a big way. We found an absolute mega school of stripers stacked up, and the majority of the fish we caught there weighed 20 pounds or better.
The weather was working in our favor all morning. Thick cloud cover and rain moving into the area kept the fish active, and the 84.7-degree water temperature had them feeding aggressively. We finished the trip with more than 30 striped bass landed, making it one of the best summer trips of the season.
One of the highlights of the day belonged to 17-year-old Paisley, who put on an incredible performance by landing five stripers over 20 pounds. Watching a young angler catch fish of that caliber is something everyone on the boat will remember for a long time.
Today’s trip also included my good friend Lake Barrett, along with Brittany, her cousin, and his mom. It was a fantastic group, plenty of laughs, and another reminder of why I love guiding on Lake Lanier.

Water Temperature: 84.7°F
Weather: Cloudy with rain moving in
Pattern: Deep humps early, followed by river channel schools
Techniques: Live bait produced the majority of the fish, with a couple of stripers caught power reeling a spoon.
Total Catch: Over 30 striped bass
Best Fish: Multiple stripers exceeding 20 pounds
Captain’s Fishing Tip
One mistake many anglers make during the summer is staying on a spot too long after the bite slows down. Today’s trip was a perfect example of why it’s important to trust your electronics. We started on a productive deep hump, but once the action tapered off, we relocated to the river channel and found another massive school that produced some of the biggest fish of the day. Keep moving until you find active fish.
