Meet Captain Matthew Haynes
Nearly 40 Years Fishing Lake Lanier • Professional Guide • Tournament Angler The biggest mistake my dad ever made was putting a Snoopy fishing rod in my hands when I was knee-high to a bullfrog. From that moment on, fishing became an obsession. Growing up just a short walk from the lake, I spent every chance I got chasing fish. That passion eventually led me to Lake Lanier, where I’ve now spent nearly four decades learning every season, every pattern, and every corner of the lake. Today I’ve been guiding professionally for 7 years and compete in the Striped Bass Challenge, the largest striper tournament trail in the Southeast. Last season I finished 5th overall in points, and over the past year I’ve landed more than 30 striped bass weighing over 20 pounds. While I love catching trophy stripers, what I enjoy even more is helping others catch them. Whether you’re looking to land the fish of a lifetime, sharpen your fishing skills, or introduce your kids to fishing, my goal is always the same: Work hard. Teach what I know. Put people on fish. I believe the best memories are made on the water, and I’d be honored to help create yours on beautiful Lake Lanier.

Had the best guide for many reasons. First the guide ask me what we wanted to target big fish right off the bat or numbers. So that being said the guide service is out to satisfy the customer best he can. Matt knows where the fish are. I have gone out a few times with him and it’s not a matter of IF you are going to catch fish, but how many fish you are going to catch.
