Alexander and family showing off a great Lake Lanier striper catch during a rainy September fishing trip.
How the Fishing Trip Started
Today I had Alexander and his family back out with me on Lake Lanier. They first fished with me about a month ago, so it was great seeing some familiar smiling faces back on the boat.
I also included a few pictures from a subscriber trip I ran about a week ago. Between fishing trips and everything going on with my own boat, it has definitely been a busy stretch.
My boat is currently down while I remove the old powerhead and get another one ready to install. I did spend some time looking into buying a new boat, but for now I believe the best move is to keep grinding, work on paying down some debt, strengthen my credit, and keep building the business.
Thankfully, my buddy Greg has been letting me use his boat so I can continue running trips while mine is out of service. That has been a huge help, and I really appreciate him stepping up.
Lake Lanier Fishing Conditions

Lake Lanier stripers stacked deep in 122 feet of water with an 85.3°F surface temperature.
Water temperature today was around 85 degrees, and we had plenty of rain throughout the trip.
I also couldn’t find a babysitter, so my 3-year-old came along and served as my first mate for the day. ???? He was an absolute soldier and hung right in there through the rain.
The fish were pretty finicky early.
At one point, the Humminbird screen was completely loaded with fish, but we could not get a rod to bend. I actually pulled my phone out and started recording the graph because there were so many fish underneath us.
Naturally, right in the middle of recording the video, one of the rods took off.
That is striper fishing for you.
We had several heartbreaks during the trip with fish getting away, but as the day went on, the fish gradually became more willing to feed.
The Big Spoon Finally Gets Bit
The highlight of the trip came toward the end of the day.
Earlier in the morning Alexander had asked me whether we ever catch stripers on the big spoon.
I told him absolutely.
Later in the trip, our biggest fish of the day came on an 8-inch spoon.
That made the bite even better.
Finding the Active Lake Lanier Stripers
There is something satisfying about having somebody ask whether a technique works and then getting the opportunity to show them firsthand.
Those big spoons can absolutely trigger reaction bites when stripers are grouped up underneath the boat, even on days when they are being stubborn about eating live bait.
Adjusting to a Different Boat
Fishing from somebody else’s boat has definitely taken some adjustment.
Everything is positioned differently. The electronics sit differently, the boat drifts differently, and even small things like rod placement and bait-tank position change the way I fish.
But when you spend enough time on the water, you eventually start putting the pieces together.
You learn how the boat behaves, you adjust your approach, and you start developing a pattern again.
Still, I cannot wait to get my own boat back on Lake Lanier.
Captain’s Tip of the Day

Sometimes keeping the business moving means doing the work behind the scenes too — old powerhead out, replacement getting ready to go in. One bite at a time.
Sometimes fishing teaches the same lessons as life.
Be grateful for what you have.
Everything you want is not always immediately available, and sometimes the best thing you can do is keep working toward it.
Like they say, sometimes you have to eat the elephant one bite at a time.
Keep grinding. Keep improving. Keep moving forward.
And most importantly, keep fishing.
A huge thank-you to Brookton Bait & Tackle in Gainesville, Georgia for helping keep us supplied and ready to fish.
