Lake Lanier Stripers Are Grouping Up as the Day Warms
Lake Lanier Striper Snipers are at it again!
Today I had Chris, Chris, and Curtis on the boat — the “Three C’s” — for another Lake Lanier striper fishing trip. The fish made us work for them early, but once we figured out where the biggest concentration of stripers had moved, the day turned into a very productive one.
The morning started with us targeting fish around humps located close to the river channel and along river swings. We were able to find stripers in several different areas, but finding them and getting them to bite were two different things.
There were plenty of times when the Lowrance showed fish around the structure, but they simply did not seem very interested in eating.
That changed as the day warmed up.
One Splash Led Us to a Mega School

As the sun got higher, I decided to head toward another area that has been productive for me when the sun comes out.
While we were running toward that spot, I happened to notice one small splash on the surface.
It wasn’t anything dramatic — just one little splash — but it caught my attention.
I told the guys that I had a feeling it was a striper.
We stopped to investigate, and as soon as I looked at the sonar, the screen was loaded with fish.
We had stumbled onto a mega school.
Once we got baits around those fish, the action picked up in a hurry. We had doubles and several stretches of steady action, and Chris, Chris, and Curtis were able to put a pile of Lake Lanier stripers in the boat.
Sometimes during summer striper fishing, paying attention to something as small as one splash on the surface can completely change the day.
Stripers Stacked Along Ledges Near Structure
The most important pattern we found today was the way the larger school was relating to the ledges.
These fish were not simply sitting over random deep water. They were stacked along areas where the bottom stepped down from shallower structure into deeper water.
Think of a flat or hump extending out from the bank and then dropping sharply along its edge. Those deeper ledges connected to the structure were holding large numbers of stripers.
That is where we found the mega school and some of the better-quality fish of the day.
Earlier in the morning, we continued seeing fish around river swings and humps near the river channel, but many of those fish were reluctant to bite. Once the day warmed and we found the larger concentration positioned along the ledge, everything changed.
Afternoon Lake Lanier Striper Fishing Remains Strong
The afternoon pattern continues to impress me.
Today the fishing really started turning on around noon, and that follows what I have been seeing lately on Lake Lanier. Although the mornings can certainly produce fish, some of our fastest action has been happening later in the day.
As the sun gets higher, the stripers appear to be concentrating more heavily in certain areas. When you locate one of those big schools, the fishing can go from slow to multiple rods going down very quickly.
That is exactly what happened today.
We went from having to work for bites around river swings and humps to sitting over a massive concentration of stripers and catching fish in bunches.
