Lake Lanier Fishing Report – Finicky Fish, But Persistence Pays Off
Today’s trip began under mostly cloudy skies with Tim and his grandson, who wanted to squeeze in one last fishing trip before heading back to school tomorrow. Those are always special trips, and I was determined to get him on some fish.
The morning started with a promising graph as I found a quality school of stripers holding in a river swing. Everything looked perfect on the electronics, but the fish had other plans. They were extremely finicky and only two fish from the entire school would commit to eating despite making multiple presentations.
Rather than staying on stubborn fish, I started covering water and checking different pieces of structure. We picked up another nice striper on a hump before relocating once again and finding a more cooperative group holding in a nearby ditch. Those fish were much more willing to bite, allowing us to finish the trip with several more quality stripers.
The biggest fish of the day weighed 16.7 pounds, providing an exciting fight and some great photos. Tim’s grandson caught several fish and wrapped up his summer break with a memorable day on Lake Lanier before heading back to school.

One thing Lake Lanier consistently teaches is that the fish don’t always read the script. Sometimes you’ll find huge schools that refuse to bite, while a much smaller group nearby is ready to eat. That’s why confidence in your electronics and a willingness to keep moving are two of the most important tools an angler can have.
Even on tougher days, a little persistence can still put quality stripers in the boat.
